Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata was named Man of the Match for his outstanding display in the 2-1 victory over Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The Spaniard was an influential figure in the middle of the park, and eventually provided the decisive moment at Old Trafford when his free-kick eluded everyone in the penalty area on its way into the Potters’ net, despite Marcos Rojo’s attempts to claim the goal.

Mata again pulled the strings for the Reds, earning him 44 per cent of fans’ votes on the club’s official Twitter page¬†@Manutd, having being nominated for the prize by MUTV pundit Danny Higginbotham.

Marouane Fellaini (37 per cent) and Chris Smalling (19 per cent) were also shortlisted for their respective contributions to the important win, just as they were following the 2-1 triumph over Arsenal last month.
