Juan Mata has capped a memorable week by claiming Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for March.

The popular Spaniard proved to be the hero at Anfield last Sunday after his two-goal salvo – including a stunning acrobatic volley – sealed a huge victory against fellow top-four chasers Liverpool. That win followed the 3-0 triumph at home to Tottenham Hotspur, when Mata┬áturned in another impressive display and left the field to a standing ovation from the Old Trafford faithful.

Fans around the world have now joined the match-going supporters in acknowledging Mata’s contribution to the cause in March, crowning him as the unanimous victor in ManUtd.com’s poll with 51 per cent of the votes.

Marouane Fellaini (33 per cent) was the runner-up while Wayne Rooney (16 per cent) was also nominated after a month in which United won all three Barclays Premier League matches and took a commanding lead over Liverpool and the other teams in the race for a Champions League place.

Coming soon… look out for an exclusive interview with Juan Mata as he reflects on winning the March award and looks ahead to April’s action.
