Juan Mata has been voted Manchester United’s Player of the Month for September after playing a starring role in a busy few weeks for the Reds.
Operating mostly in a right-sided attacking position, the Spaniard started all six games across the period, helping his side to five wins with several decisive contributions.
The diminutive 27-year-old scored goals against Southampton, Sunderland and Wolfsburg, while his three assists included a delightful backheeled flick to set up Chris Smalling for the winner against Wolfsburg.
That was enough to secure Mata our monthly award for the fourth time since his move from Chelsea in early 2014; he also scooped the accolade in February and April last year, and March this year.
Mata earned 44 per cent of the votes from fans on ManUtd.com, beating off a strong challenge from Anthony Martial (42 per cent), who also impressed in his first month with the Reds.
Smalling (16 per cent) came third after being nominated for our award for the second successive month, in recognition of his consistent displays at the heart of the defence.
Look out for an exclusive interview with Juan on MUTV and ManUtd.com on Friday afternoon.
