Jose Mourinho will take a 25-man squad to China for Tour 2016, presented by Aon, with Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City lying in wait.
New signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are both named in the travelling party, as are a number of players whose Euro 2016 campaign ended in premature fashion at the last 16 stage – Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair and David De Gea.
Fit-again Luke Shaw is included, as are Will Keane and Andreas Pereira who scored the goals in the 2-0 win at Wigan on Saturday. Young defender Axel Tuanzebe, who Mourinho spoke about enthusiastically after the game, has also made the pre-season trip.
The Reds will face Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on Friday, with Manchester City the opponents in Beijing next Monday. The week-long trip will afford Mourinho a good opportunity to have a closer look at his squad as he continues preparations for the new season.
A further Tour 2016 game will follow against Galatasaray on 30 July in Gothenburg, while Wayne Rooney’s testimonial against Everton (3 August) and the FA Community Shield (7 August) will give Mourinho more chances to assess the players before the the opening Premier League match at Bournemouth (14 August).
