Manchester United will face Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Mick McCarthy’s men lead the Championship after a fine start to the season and won 4-1 at Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night despite being taken to extra time. The two teams have not played since 2002, when the Reds won 1-0 at Portman Road.
United were knocked out of last year’s second round by Milton Keynes Dons and must be determined to fare better this season after being handed a bye to this stage due to the club’s involvement in Europe.
The tie will be played in the week commencing September 21, following the Barclays Premier League trip to Southampton on Sunday, September 20.
